Class Scheduling and Structure

PARA Academy of Music and Arts schedules all classes. Each session consists of six (6)  weekly 1-hour classes. This allows students see their growth as they progress through the session. For this reason, classes are not taught on a per-lesson basis. Classes are taught in person and online, at the instructor's discretion. The minimum cohort starting enrollment is three students. The maximum cohort enrollment is five students. This is to provide the best student-to-teacher ratio and student-to-student group dynamic. If an active cohort reduces at any time to fewer than three students, the remaining students (secondary cohort) will be merged with an existing (primary) cohort, if one with capacity is available. If none is available, or if the schedule for the primary cohort does not meet the needs of the parent(s)/student(s) in the secondary cohort, the students in the secondary cohort will be converted to private students at the next registration period.

Students must bring a 3-ring binder with plastic sheet protectors, bound composition book, or spiral bound notebook and a pen to every class.

Class Materials
Equipment

Tabla sets are sensitive instruments that require attentive care in storage and transport. Students must provide their own tabla set and carrying case/duffle bag. PARA Academy of Music and Arts does not rent or loan tabla sets or bags but can recommend reputable vendors and tabla repair services upon request.

Attendance and Make-Up Policy

PARA Academy of Music and Arts is dedicated to providing high quality instruction in Indian Classical Music and Arts. Consistent, regular attendance is critical to learning this complex art form. We understand that students of all ages might be involved in multiple activities and have other obligations. Students (or their parents, if minors) are responsible for reviewing the dates of tabla class for conflicts before registering for PARA classes. Prompt arrival and pick up for classes is expected. We understand the unplanned sometimes happens. If you/your child is unexpectedly unable to attend a scheduled class meeting, we request the courtesy of a phone call, text, or email at least 24 hours in advance or as soon as feasible in the event of an emergency. Cohort and Private classes that are canceled by the instructor will be rescheduled/made up. Classes missed by cohort students are forfeited and will not be made up. Up to two classes missed by private students may be made up per session. The make-up private class(es) must be scheduled so that the session ends no later than one week past the original end date of the session. If this is not possible, the missed private class(es) will be forfeited.
